McLaughlin & Harvey has recruited a former Wates and Bowmer & Kirkland executive as its first regional director as it looks to pick up more jobs in central England.
The firm, which operates in sectors including healthcare, education, industrial and retail, has appointed John Carlin as a director responsible for the region in a newly created role.
Carlin spent nearly seven years at Wates and prior to that around 19 years at Bowmer & Kirkland across two stints.
McLaughlin & Harvey, whose group head office is in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, said Carlin will be “responsible for the operational delivery of regional projects and for building a commercial pipeline of future work using his extensive network of contacts”.
The firm has two companies that make up the group, one in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland.
Carlin will be employed by the Scottish business to lead the projects out of that office and secure new projects in central England, a spokesperson told Construction News. He will be based in the firm’s Birmingham office.
McLaughlin & Harvey is already working in the region for BMW, Rolls Royce and Etex, and delivered the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
McLaughlin & Harvey managing director Paul Griffen said: “Bringing John into the business now allows us to build on this solid foundation and I look forward to working with him and drawing on his considerable experience.”
Carlin added: “I have been impressed by McLaughlin & Harvey’s professionalism and capabilities since joining, and I’m excited to be part of their continued growth.”
