Leading plant hire companies partner to create Eco Operator training

L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage and P Flannery Plant Hire are leading the charge to reduce carbon emissions in the UK construction industry. In collaboration with NOCN and the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA), they’ve created a standardised Eco Operator short training course to help all operators understand their impact on the environment and how to use plant machinery more efficiently.

As part of the UK Climate Change Act, the UK government has set the construction industry the goal of becoming net zero by 2050. With buildings accounting for 39 per cent of global carbon emissions, reducing the impact of construction and operation is crucial.

In this half-day program, operators will learn about the impact of their actions on the environment and understand how they can help reduce emissions by using plant machinery safely and efficiently. The course costs £27.00 per delegate, and the full specification can be found here.

Gez Bonner, National Training Manager, L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage Ltd commented: “We have been delivering the Eco Operator course to all our operators and customers since 2018 with fantastic results lowering CO2, N0x emissions and fuel costs.  Lynch is proud to join forces with NOCN & Flannery’s to put both our courses together to become nationally recognised. Our aim is to make all operators of plant to be as efficient as they are safe. Net zero by 2050 is the challenge; we believe this is what our industry needs for that challenge to become a reality.”

Aaron Davis, Head of Skills Training, P. Flannery Plant Hire (Oval) Ltd added, “As the quote “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”, this collaboration between Flannery, Lynch and NOCN shows what can be achieved when everyone is shooting for a common goal in this instance, aware, efficient, engaged, safe and talented operators.”

Chris Carter-Rowlands, Product Manager (Construction), NOCN Group is proud of the collaboration stating, “It has been fantastic to collaborate with the UK’s leading plant hire companies to create a standardised approach for all operators. The Eco Operator course allows operators and employers to be confident in that the skills and knowledge taught is what the industry needs to meet the UK’s climate goals.”

The Eco Operator course is part of a wide variety of qualifications, apprenticeship end point assessments, short courses and units offered by NOCN Group under the Green Skills umbrella. Find out more.
