Kier and Morgan Sindall among winners on £3bn housing association deal

Kier Places and Morgan Sindall Property Services have been named among 10 partners on a major upgrade programme with L&Q.

The housing association has signed 15-year contracts with 10 partners worth up to £300m per year for its major works investment programme.

The contracts will see the companies deliver a range of services including estate and environmental improvements, planned mechanical and engineering works and internal decorations. Work will also include specialist fire-safety works inside L&Q Living supported homes.

The contracts are initially worth around £100m per year but L&Q said it expected this to increase to around £300m in some years of the programme, based on the level of activity that the housing association requires.

The other winners on the deal were Amber Construction, Axis Europe, Breyer Group, Durkan, Equans, Foster, United Living and Wates.

L&Q said the contracts would be worth almost £3bn over the 15 years – making it the industry’s largest investment programme to improve the safety, comfort and environmental performance of residents’ homes. It will see all L&Q homes maintained to the Decent Homes Standard – the technical minimum standard for social housing.

L&Q director of major works Mark Newstead said each of the companies “share our commitment to quality and excellence, while creating a positive impact on the communities where we work”.

In February 2020, L&Q announced it was pausing land acquisition and new projects in order to focus on improving the safety and quality of its existing housing stock. The move followed safety reviews of its buildings in the wake of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire.
