Grammar appointed director at Murphy

Paul Grammar has been appointed a director of civils-focused contractor Murphy.

Grammar, a chartered surveyor, joined the firm in 2020 to lead commercial activities across the company.

He also acts as a partner at professional advisory firm Integrated Project Delivery, which has advised on projects including the Battersea Power Station redevelopment and the Swansea tidal lagoon.

Before taking up his position at Murphy he spent four years as Crossrail’s commercial director, with responsibility for developing and implementing the scheme’s commercial and procurement functions.

Prior to that Grammar was European commercial director at Laing O’Rourke and spent 13 years with the company.

He previously also served as a director of Lang O’Rourke, Glen Water Ltd and Explore 2050 Engineering Ltd.

In June J Murphy & Sons announced the appointment of John Cresswell as chairman, replacing Alastair Kerr, who is to step down at the end of the year after 10 years in the role.

Financial results for the contractor showed its revenue totalled £1.27bn at the end of last year, rising from £1.11bn in 2020.
