Contractors alerted to £22m road dualling job

The first details of a £22m job to dual the A350 near Chippenham have been revealed in a prior information notice published by Wiltshire County Council.

Wiltshire Council is looking for contractors to lead the project, which will see the A-road dualled in two spots, the 1.8km stretch between Cepen Park South roundabout and Bumpers Farm roundabout and the 1.5km route from Chequers roundabout to Lackham roundabout.

Bumpers Farm roundabout will also be expanded from two lanes to three, while two exits, to the A420 eastwards and westwards, will be dualled. One exit from the Lackham roundabout will also be dualled.

The Department for Transport (DfT) last year committed £26.6m to fund the scheme, which Wiltshire Council is preparing a full business case (FBC) for. Its pre-contract notice cites a cost of £22m.

At the time of publication, the council had not disclosed when it expects to submit the FBC to the DfT.

If accepted, work is set to take place in 2024 and 2025.

The work covers phases four and five of a scheme to dual the entire A350.

Contractors interested in the opportunity have been invited to a market engagement webinar scheduled for Thursday 17 November at 11am. They can sign up to the event by emailing [email protected] by midday on Friday 11 November.

Wiltshire Council expects to publish a contract notice on 3 April 2023.
