VolkerFitzpatrick wins £81m M27 Junction 10 upgrade

The upgrade involves the provision of a new motorway underpass to the west of the existing M27 Junction 10, three new slip roads to facilitate an ‘all moves’ arrangement and the construction of a new dual carriageway to link the new slip roads to the existing road network.

VolkerFitzpatrick and its lead designer, Ramboll, will now finalise the design for the scheme, with construction planned to begin in early 2023.

In March 2022, Hampshire County Council and Fareham Borough Council were awarded £41.2m of Housing Investment Grant by Homes England towards the upgrade of Junction 10.

This will make a substantial contribution to the overall cost of the scheme with the remaining £40m being provided by the Welborne developers Buckland Development.

Councillor Seán Woodward, executive leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: “The improvements to M27 Jn10 are the key to unlocking the new homes at Welborne Garden Village, so it is really good to have VolkerFitzpatrick appointed to undertake this critical piece of infrastructure.”

Masterplan of Welborne Garden Village and new junction arrangement

John Beresford, managing director, Buckland Development, said: “2022 has been the year where the attention has turned from visions of Welborne into the delivery of Welborne.

“The new motorway junction will not only serve the 6,000 homes of the new town but also the new Welborne Science & Technology Park which will be the largest new employment scheme along the South Coast.”
