Turner Construction to build $225m health education building at University of Kentucky

Turner Construction has been awarded a $225m contract by the University of Kentucky to build a 450,000 sq ft health education building at its campus in Lexington.

The project will provide facilities for the university’s colleges of medicine, public health, health sciences and nursing. These will include classrooms, simulation suites, conference rooms, offices, support space, a green roof and terraces.

American architects HOK and JRA are working on the development.

David Opalka, Turner’s construction executive, said: “We are honoured that University of Kentucky selected our team to work with them on this world-class project.

“We look forward to helping the university expand its programme and achieve its vision to increase the number of students prepared to meet the growing need for healthcare services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

Construction is due to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2026.
