The 2022-23 Tasmanian Budget includes $204 million in capital funding for building new homes in the coming year.
The funding will increase to $538 million over the forward estimates (the next four years).
The balance of the funds will be allocated to the Housing Package over the remaining six years of the 10-year program.
The Tasmanian Government plans to build 1169 homes this year and meet its target of 1500 by June 2023.
State Development, Construction and Housing Minister Guy Barnett said the State Budget Papers makes it clear that $538 million will go towards the target of building 10,000 new homes.
“This is all new capital funding being poured into new funding for new homes, and more accommodation for Tasmanians,” Barnett said.
“A third of the $1.5 billion Housing Package will be provided over the next four years, along with more than 3500 homes by 2027, more than a third of our 10,000 homes.”
