Chinese developer Giant Mind is planning to build a 48-floor office tower close to the Broadgate development in London’s Square Mile.
The 41,000 sq m scheme is at an early stage of development with architect SOM understood to be working up designs ahead of submitting a planning application.
Current design proposals include a terrace at mid-level on the near 200m tall building.
This scheme will replace previous plans approved by Hackney Borough Council in 2015 to build a 45-storey mixed hotel and office block.
New York hotel developer Masterworks Development Corporation, owner of the Club Quarters hotel brand, had planned to develop to site but has since sold the Bavaria House site at 13-14 Appold Street to the Chinese developer.
Fresh plans for the site emerged following the submission of a scoping document to the local council submitted by Buro Happold.
Demolition of the existing seven-storey Bavaria House building could start by mid-2023, with construction of the proposed development beginning in early 2024.
