138km Hangzhou-to-Huzhou railway completed east of Shanghai

A 138km-long railway linking the cities of Hangzhou and Huzhou in Zhejiang province, near Shanghai, has been completed by China Railway Construction Company (CRCC).

CRCC say the design of the route’s stations, bridges and tunnels are influenced by the natural landscape and the region’s culture.

The railway will connect Deqing and Tonglu Counties, passing through the districts of Fuyang, Xihu and Yuhang.

Stations have been built at Fuyangxi, Tongludong and Hangzhou West. The last, which will be the largest, is based on the idea of a “cloud city”.

The railway will serve visitors to the 2022 Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou between 23 September and 8 October next year, after a delay due to Covid-19.

The line is part of the Hangzhou-to-Hefei high-speed railway, where trains will travel at speeds of up to 350km/h.
